Selah Collective plays original Mediterranean jazz infused with authentic flavours from all over the world. Rooted & grounded in Israel, our musical influences include Avishai Cohen, Ibrahim Maalouf, Snarky Puppy and more. Our full official release ‘Belonging’ (LP) was released on January 18th, 2019. The album includes 8 original compositions. We are constantly playing across the country in various venues as a 5-piece music ensemble, featuring musical guests from the local and international scenes.
Plans for 2020 include appearances on several European festivals (TBA). Previous notable appearances include Kaunas Jazz Festival (2019), Ashdod Jazz Series in Klang (2019) as well as multiple participations in the “Divercities” festival (2018) in Grenoble, France. The group was founded in 2009 by Slava Shoolman (Bass/Arrangements) & Daniel Rososki (Piano/Composition) and has been playing with the current personnel since late 2016. Selah Collective’s dynamic sound is also built around guest appearances by top players of the local & global scene. Recurrent flavours are the Oud, Sax and unique vocalists.
“For the past few years I’ve witnessed their progress as they developed their sound and reached musical maturity. Their new album is a great mix of Latin, jazz & world music, with hearts and minds open to the world. I advise everyone to go see their live concerts, as it’s the best way to discover this great band.”
Pierre Feugier (Gnawa Diffusion)
“It was a privilege hosting Selah Collective for a live session in our studio and spend time with them, before and after the jam. It’s impossible to ignore their energy, both musical and interpersonal. Their joy of playing music together makes it a powerful experience.”
Oren Limor (IDC Radio, 106.2FM)
“Selah Collective belongs to a new generation of musicians that dug deeper beyond the obvious influences of the 90’s, turned off social media to actually practice, and emerged with some bad-ass skills. The 6-piece ensemble succeeded in creating a fusion of flavors from all over the world, and stay deeply grounded in the funky, mischievous & upbeat Israeli mentality. You are in for some good time.”
Noa Faran (Lemur Magazine)
“Selah Collective closed off our final show of 2019 showcasing a great blend of excellent musicianship and superb musicality . I was highly impressed with the band’s professionalism and open hearted approach to their performance.”
Boaz Sachs, City Leader Tel-Aviv, Sofar Sounds
“They presented a program with songs from their debut album ‘Belonging’. I saw artists, who know their highly developed special different talents and competencies, nevertheless acting in humble consciousness. Fascinating, eclectic music!”
